Brooke has taken full advantage of courses and extracurricular activities at OHS. She took AP Government and Politics and AP Language and Composition last year and passed both AP exams. She is on track to graduate with 27 concurrent college credits and is taking AP Biology this year. If she passes her AP exam this year, she will graduate with a whopping 36 college credits.
In addition to her curricular involvement, she has been involved with the OHS Quiz Bowl team, Beta Club, Stock Market Club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and the Social Studies Club in the course of her high school career. She currently serves as the secretary for FBLA.
Her favorite class is Ms. Lemp’s Art IV class. “Right now, I am a senior, so I’m in art four which is the highest art class you can take here. And, we get to paint a ceiling tile after spring break…I really like the art class. I think Ms. Lemp is really good because I had Coach Acord whenever I was a sophomore. You know, it was kind of weird ‘cause then we came back and it was Ms. Lemp, but I think she does really good, especially for it being like her first year teaching.”
Brooke is a notable artist who represented OHS at Arkansas Governor’s School (AGS) as a visual arts major and 2021 AGS graduate.
The most important things that she has learned at OHS are self-motivation and time management. “...I have to put in the effort to get the results that I want to see…last year I really had to learn time management. I still struggle with that.”
In Brooke’s free time, she enjoys indie music like Wallows, Taylor Swift, and Harry Styles. She loves “good vibes music,” and creates Spotify playlists to unwind. Through repressed giggles, she said, “I try to make them [playlists] look funny on their covers.” She is such an avid Nintendo Switch gamer—playing mostly Animal Crossing and Pokemon—that her family invested in a second Switch.
Her favorite food is Raising Cane’s chicken fingers. “I love Raising Cane’s…Raising Cane’s is the answer…that’s all I want. That’s all I crave.” She is so obsessed with Raising Cane’s that she had to talk herself out of having Uber Eats deliver it to Ozark. To her parents’ protest of it not being a “real restaurant,” she requested it for her birthday meal. There is some solace for Booke—her sister has mastered making Raising Cane’s sauce at home.
This fall, she plans to attend the University of Central Arkansas as a history major and eventually become a history teacher. She considered art as a major but decided against it so that she could keep art as a passion and hobby.
